Plan Description

This version of a Nantucket Island saltbox is adapted from a cottage built around 1820 by Captain Alexander Bunker. The exterior includes many of the details of the original, including the shuttered front door and the classic entablature over the front doorway. Although the garage is a modern addition, the location of the kitchen--in the attached lean-to at the back of the house--is the same. The kitchen itself is totally up-to-date, with spaces for today's appliances and a large U-shaped work area. Down a step from the main hall, the kitchen offers sliding glass doors to a flagstone-paved terrace, as does the nearby dining room. A living room with a fireplace, a family bedroom and a laundry room complete the first floor. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a large walk-in closet and a separate vanity area in a bath shared with a third bedroom.
